Dr. Thompson is currently developing and piloting a Comprehensive Safety curriculum focusing on teamwork and communications in the critical care setting. He has a background in critical care nursing, with over 16 years experience at the bedside in surgical and medical critical care, both as a nurse and research program coordinator. Concurrently, he has spent 6 years teaching in undergraduate nursing education, as a Clinical Instructor in Adult Physical Health. Dr. Thompson has also developed and implemented in collaboration with Dr. Peter Pronovost, a 5 week safety curriculum for medical students at the Johns Hopkins University. Prior to his health services research, he worked in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine as a Senior Research Program Coordinator in many multi-center trials conducted by the ARDS Network funded by the National Institutes of Health. Prior to working in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, he worked in the Department of Surgery as a Senior Research Associate in both clinical and basic science research. His primary work focused on pharmacokinetics of aminoglycosides, analysis of blood analytes and sepsis syndrome.
