 Ventilator Bundle

Problem Statement:  Mechanical ventilation places patients at increased risk for death and complications, such as gastrointestinal bleeding and ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP).  The incidence of VAP in the ICU ranges from 10-60% with VAP patients staying longer in the ICU and at increased risk of death.

What is a Ventilator Bundle?  A ventilator bundle is series of interventions  (i.e., elevate head of bed for one) that should be done on each mechanically ventilated patient to move this closer to removal of mechanical ventilation.

Purpose of Tool:    To eliminate ventilator-associated complications and reduce duration of mechanical ventilator, length of ICU stay and risk of death.

Who Should Use this Tool:    Health care providers

How to Use this Tool:    See attached form
