Assessing Climate Across AscensionHealth System

PI: Bryan Sexton
Sponsor: AscensionHealth
Project Period: December 2004-December 2006

Project Description:
There is a growing consensus that safety and quality of health care must be investigated within the context of teamwork and their work environment.  By using cross-sectional surveys of healthcare providers, we directly elicit information from the front line workers of medicine.  A Teamwork and Safety Climate survey will be used to assess healthcare providers’ attitudes regarding interpersonal interactions and perceptions of organizational commitment to patient safety.  Frontline providers at up to 68 acute care facilities in the AscensionHealth system will asked to complete a survey—individual participation is voluntary and anonymous.

Specific Aims:

  1. Provide an overall assessment of staff’s perceptions of teamwork and safety climate at each acute care facility to help facilitate quality improvement projects.
